Why are the commercials on TV twice as loud as the programs we watch? When I rule the world... each night immediately after dinner, every member of the Federal Communications Commission (which is supposed to deal with problems like this) and every television station manager in America will be forced to sit for two hours directly in front of a 25-foot high speaker blasting 90 decibels of industrial rock.
Corporate sales weasels and CEOs will probably not change the practice. As James Thurber said, "Nowadays, most men lead lives of noisy desperation."
But at least we can take comfort knowing that they are sharing our misery.
