September Means Softball!

September 27, 2012
Todd Richter - County of Maui Recreational Assistant , The Maui Weekly

September means softball in South Maui. Over the first three weeks of the month, we have three leagues going. Monday, Sept. 10, opened our 15 & Under Girls League. This year we have only three teams, so each Monday, one team will play a doubleheader.

Starting off, Khaos edged Riptide 6-5. Tehani Wagner was one for two, with one RBI and two runs scored to lead Khaos.

The second game between Khaos and Wadoosh (who comes up with these names anyway?) went all the way to the last at bat for Khaos. Sarah Vigneux's single scored Kacie Fanara, giving Khaos a come-from-behind 11-10 win.

Girls league games are every Monday at the South Maui Community Park field at 5:30 and 7 p.m.

Men's league games are Tuesday through Thursday, also at the South Maui Community Park. Many players consider the Kihei league the best on Maui, and the number of teams that enter every year reflects that. This year, 16 teams split into two divisions make up the league.

Opening night was Tuesday, Sept. 11. Ten10Ten10Ten and Cove Park Bradda's went back and forth the whole game with Ten10ten coming out on top 19-16. Both teams combined for 36 hits. Next up, Caged got by Chico's 11-5, and the final game of opening night went to Wild Ones who beat Korrupt 13-3.

Wednesday's action started with Red Eye Souljahs shutting out Doggie Dawgs 10-0. Trailing 9-7 going to the last inning, Blue Collar scored eight runs and went on to beat Put Out Da Fire 15-12. Lastly, K5 Live beat Q103 12-4.

The week wrapping up on Sept. 14 with three lopsided games, starting with Caged beating Da Jagerbombers 14-0. Next, Fausto Allosado smashed four homeruns, including two in a 10-run first inning for Aww Shucks as they routed Cove Park Bradda's 25-2. Allosado also finished with eight RBIs. In the final game of the night and week, Goodfellow Brothers had 32 hits in their 25-3 win over Kihei Sporting Goods.

Our Co-Ed Softball League started up again for the second time this year on Sunday, Sept. 16.

We welcome anyone who wants to help referee or keep score. Give us a call at 879-4533, or just come to the park on game days. For more South Maui Sports information, check Facebook at Have a great weekend!
