State, County Officials to Speak at Hui Holomua Business Fest

All Maui business people are welcome to attend the Hui Holomua Business Fest to gather empowering information and make connections.

The free, all-day event on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Grand Wailea Resort is sponsored by the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Maui corporate sponsors.

U.S. Senate candidate Linda Lingle; Gov. Neil Abercrombie; Mayor Alan Arakawa; OHA Maui trustee candidates; a panel of successful Maui entrepreneurs; the development team for Pulehunua, a new public-private venture slated near Costco; Maui County Office of Economic Development Director Teena Rasmussen; and University of Hawai'i at Manoa Dean Maenette Ah Nee-Benham are all expected to participate.

The Hui Holomua Business Fest will begin with a 6 a.m. Hawaiian canoe and ho‘okupu ceremony at the permanent Ahu on Grand Wailea grounds near the beach.

Keynote luncheon speaker Ramsay Taum will expand and illustrate the conference theme: "Native Hawaiian Values Are Good Business Values."

A full day of panel discussions on entrepreneurship, public-private business collaboration, capacity building and economic development will be held in the resort's conference rooms.

This free conference, sponsored by a generous grant from OHA, is open to the public. There is a $30 fee for a sit-down luncheon in the Grand Wailea's Haleakala Ballroom.

The Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber brings together Hawaiian culture and commerce. Membership is open to all who share and practice Hawaiian values and its mission: "To promote and sustain our Hawaiian Culture, nurturing a strong community of Hawaiian Values and to enhance opportunities for success in business and education.
