National Recreation and Parks Association Convention

I'm back after attending a three-day National Recreation and Parks Association Convention in California. More than 7,000 parks and recreation people, as well as over 500 vendors from all over the U.S., came to the massive Anaheim Convention Center for board meetings, a wide variety of educational sessions, and to see some amazing new innovations in parks and playgrounds equipment.

Coed Softball League

On Oct. 21, Cove Park 'Ohana got by Platinum 13-5, the Beach Bums outslugged Red Line 16-11, So Wut defeated the 808 Grinders 13-3, and Nuts & Honeys scoring 14 runs in the first inning and going on to beat Boom 28-17.

Girls Softball League

Two more 15-and-under softball games were played on Oct. 22. Khaos lost the opener to Riptide 13-9, but responded with an exciting 9-7 win over Wadoosh. The girls' season ended play on Oct. 29.

Men's Softball League

Men's games started on Oct. 23 with a back-and-forth game won by Caged over Ten10Ten10Ten 16-15, followed by Put Out Da Fire's 7-0 forfeit win over Aww Shucks, and ended with Kihei Sporting Goods picking up their first win of the season by defeating Chicos 10-8.

On Oct. 24, the Wild Ones used a five-run fourth inning to beat Q103 7-2, followed by a close game between Blue Collar and Cove Park Braddas. The Braddas joined Kihei Sporting Goods in winning their first games of the season, defeating Blue Collar 8-7.

The week finished up on Oct. 25. The Red Eye Souljahs broke open a tight game by scoring 15 of their 18 runs in the sixth and seventh innings, defeating Da Jagerbombers 18-4, followed by Goodfellow Brothers 8-2 win over K5 Live.

The Men's Softball League has about a month to go. Games are played Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at South Maui Community Park.

Adult Coed Kickball League, Kids' Basketball

South Maui Parks will start an Adult Coed Kickball League in December. Get a team together and get ready. More information is coming soon. Also, we're still registering kids age 5-11 for our basketball program.
