With the season of giving fast approaching, Blood Bank of Hawai'i reminds Maui residents to consider adding a stranger or two to their gift-giving list in December. And donors who make a whole blood donation from Dec. 24 to Jan. 2, 2013, will receive a special treat.
Blood Bank of Hawai'i drives in December (subject to change) are:
Dec. 20: Lahaina Civic Center, Social Hall, 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
Dec. 21: Cameron Center, Auditorium, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Dec. 26: Maui Economic Opportunity, Classroom 1 & 2, first floor, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Dec. 27: Maui Economic Opportunity, Classroom 1 & 2, first floor, 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Dec. 28: Maui Economic Opportunity, Classroom 1 & 2, first floor, 7 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
The donation process is safe and usually takes about an hour. A confidential interview and a mini-physical are administered, but the actual collection of blood takes only five to eight minutes.
The requirements to be a blood donor are: Be in good health; be 18 years of age or older (17 with signed consent form); weigh 110 pounds or more; and bring a valid photo ID with date of birth.
