HC&S Must Stop Burning Cane

Our lungs, hearts, minds and children will rejoice…

November 29, 2012
Gwen Hunt - Kihei , The Maui Weekly

Dear HC&S employees, this letter is for you! Your profit-making employers should be aware of both the effectiveness and the morality of converting to clean, green harvest alternatives to burning. However, their reluctance to consider this must be based upon the huge profits they achieve by the present outdated practices. These arcane practices continue to pollute this beautiful 'aina with toxins under the cover of darkness and obfuscation. Your precious 'ohana are suffering needlessly while the lovely young keiki see black snow and short futures fraught with illness and disease!

Please do not let fear-mongering by sugarcane employers scare you into thinking you will lose jobs if they develop a conscience and "do the right thing by their workers."

Losing jobs is a lie that is being perpetrated by fat-cat tactics to keep you in your place. No question authority!

Step up to the plate for your workforce, if only to keep your devoted people in good health. Our lungs, hearts, minds and children will rejoice over the quality of life we are all now being deprived of. The truth is cane burning is death--green harvest means life. Green harvest creates jobs.

You, dear workers, are worth more than gold. You are the 'aina!
