ProArts Playhouse in Kihei will finish its fall season with "Smokey Joe's Caf," an incendiary Broadway revue featuring the songs of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. This award-winning musical will be presented for 10 performances beginning on Friday, Dec. 7, and ending on Sunday, Dec. 23.
Songwriters Leiber and Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock 'n' roll, and now their songs provide the basis for smokin' hot entertainment that illuminates a golden age of American culture. In an idealized '50s setting, the classic themes of love won, lost and imagined blend with hilarious set pieces and slice-of-life emotions.
Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, "Smokey Joe's Caf" isn't just great pop music--its compelling musical theatre. The hits include "On Broadway," "Love Potion #9," "Jailhouse Rock," "Hound Dog" and "Stand By Me."
