The Maui Weekly

George Porter Jr. and Ivan Neville are synonymous with the sound of New Orleans, and on Friday, Dec. 21, they will both headline "Funk Da End a Da World," a two-day music festival located at Camp Keanae.

With over 15 confirmed bands, "Funk Da End a Da World" offers a rare opportunity celebrate the end of the Mayan calendar and experience the funkiest in funk in an intimate oceanfront setting.

Best known as the bassist of the '60s and '70s funk ensemble The Meters, George Porter Jr. will be joined by his band, The Runnin' Pardners. The band features Brint Anderson, Michael Lemmler and rising stars on the New Orleans music scene, Khris Royal and Terrence Houston.

Neville will perform with Dumpstaphunk, a band he assembled on a whim to perform a solo slot at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. He chose the unique double-bass attack of both Nick Daniels and Tony Hall, and enlisted his own bloodlines--Ian Neville--for the scorching guitar rhythms of cousin. The project has since grown from a chance side-project into what is now widely considered to be one of New Orleans' most prestigious modern funk ensembles.

"Funk Da End a Da World" also includes performances by over 15 live bands and entertainers from Maui, California and beyond. The confirmed lineup includes DJ Logic, Monophonics, Big Sam, Jug Dealers, Afromassive, Brown Chicken Brown Cow, Kanekoa, Bruddah Waltah, Afrolicious, Free Radicals Projekt, MothXP, Ultra Violets, Flash Drive, the Kit Kat Club Cabaret, Maui Underground and more.
