Opening ceremonies at the "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Stone of Hope Monument at 200 High Street in Wailuku will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21. The event will commemorate the Stone of Hope Monument in our nation's capitol in Washington, D.C.
Dr. King (Jan.15, 1929-April 4, 1968) was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March, in commemoration of the March on Washington, will commence at 9 a.m. from the Stone of Hope Monument to the Wailuku Coffee Company at 26 N. Market Street for a "Dr. King Tribute and Celebration" from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. festivities and tributes will continue with entertainment at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center's Center Stage in Kahului from 1 to 3 p.m.
The event is co-sponsored by the County of Maui, African Americans on Maui Association and African American Heritage Foundation Maui and the Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition-Hawai'i (Maui).
