The Kihei Community Association (KCA), under the direction of the newly elected board, will commence with a community meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. Former Maui County Information Director Mahina Martin will discuss Act 55, the Public Lands Development Corporation (PLDC), which was approved by the state Legislature in 2011 to allow private entities to operate businesses on state lands such as Makena State Park.
In addition, Gene Zarro of the Kihei Charter School, Maui's only charter school and South Maui's only high school, will present an overview of the school, which is now in its second decade.
Attendees can also learn how a KCA membership entitles you to participate in all benefits of a credit union.
"KCA plans to hit the new year running," said newly elected President Mike Moran. "We want to build on the 55-year history of this venerable organization."
Doors open at 6 p.m. for talk story and pupu at the Kihei Charter School Middle School at 41 E. Lipoa.
Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the Maui Food Bank.
