The Blood Bank of Hawai'i received $1,750 and more than 87 pints of blood at a charitable blood drive hosted by Monsanto's Maui employees last month at the Kihei Community Center. The blood drive collected enough to supply almost half the state's blood supply needs for a day and potentially save up to 261 lives. According to the Blood Bank, each pint of blood can help up to three patients. Of the Monsanto employees and community members who turned out for the drive, 38 were first-time blood donors.
