Maui Coffee Roasters, which has supplied fresh micro-roasted coffee for its wholesale customers and retail store since 1982, recently unveiled a new eco-friendly coffee roaster at its Kahului location.
The new roaster uses a patented technology that reduces greenhouse gas emissions while consuming 80 percent less energy than conventional commercial roasters.
"We strive to be sustainable in all of our operations," said Maui Coffee Roasters Owner Nicky "Beans" Matichyn, "with as little environmental impact as possible."
Maui Coffee Roasters Vice President Mike Okazaki and Nicky “Beans” Matichyn, owner of the cafe, and coffee retail/wholesale business, unveil their new eco-friendly coffee roaster.
With the new Loring roaster, Maui Coffee Roasters will decrease its carbon dioxide emissions by 250,000 pounds over the next six years, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide released from the combustion of 12,500 gallons of gasoline. This cutting-edge equipment will shrink the company's environmental footprint, produce a cleaner coffee flavor and balance the acidity, sweetness and mouth-feel due to a state-of-the-art computer system that allows for control and precision throughout the roasting process.
"At the end of the day, it's the quality of our coffee that matters," said Matichyn. "With our new roaster, we have the tools necessary to better highlight the characteristics of each coffee origin to our wholesale and retail customers."
Maui Coffee Roasters offers a wide variety of 100 percent Kona, Kau and Maui coffees, as well as Hawaiian blend and Hawaiian flavored coffees.
