2013 Maui Matsuri T-shirt design contest

Traci Giordano Silva (center) won the 2013 Maui Matsuri T-shirt design contest. Her design incorporated the kanji symbol for "ganbari" (perseverance) and an illustration of a Japanese sugar plantation worker. (From left) Maui Matsuri Co-Chairs Yuki Lei Sugimura and Rod Ryugo, Silva, and Co-Chairs Kay Fukumoto and Brian Nagami attended the award ceremony, where Silva received $100 and five T-shirts. Matsuri festivities will continue on May 11 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the University of Hawai'i Maui College.
