On Tuesday, May 28, Maui Business Brainstormers (MBB) will present "The Digital Media Revolution" at the Fairmont Kea Lani. The fun and informative seminar will be presented by Mark Glaser (executive editor of PBS MediaShift), who will explain how the revolution happened and how people's attention has turned from print to online. He will examine four case studies of new media that have sprung up against all odds to become powerful forces in our culture.
Glaser will present a clear explanation of how digital media has changed our world, with the rise of social media, online-sleuthing, memes and more--and the loss of power by media moguls and traditional media.
He will outline how the Boston bombings manhunt played out online, with people following every detail on Twitter and conducting their own fact checking on sites such as Reddit. He will then include the audience in a spirited question-and-answer discussion.
The seminar will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with light pupu included in the admission price.
Due to the educational content in this seminar, MBB encourages high school and college students to attend.
"If a school or teacher makes the student's attendance as a study assignment, MBB will offer free admission to each student," said MBB volunteer Co-organizer Grace Fung.
The event is open to members and their guests at $12 per person.
