The Maui News - An unscheduled and unauthorized sugar cane burn in Pa'ia off Baldwin Avenue on Sunday, May 19, burned five acres with an estimated loss of $25,000 to Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co., a fire official said Sunday evening.
Units from Pa'ia, Makawao and Kahului responded to the blaze. When crews arrived on the scene, they found about two acres of cane on fire.
