On Monday, June 3, Upcountry Sustainability will explore the possibilities of ecovillages on Maui with guest speaker Jashana Kippert.
"The word 'ecovillage' means many different things to many different people," said US President Melanie Stephens.
In this second presentation on ecovillages, Kippert will discuss with the audience what these villages really are and what role they may play in Maui's future. She will present an overview of the Global Ecovillage Network and then focus on the possibilities and challenges on Maui.
Kippert is interested in forming an ongoing working group to continue cultivating possibilities.
She has spent most of her adult life in the study of environmental and social ecology. Heaped with academic degrees and training, she has also has acquired a lot of real-life, direct and intentional community experience.
Kippert makes a yearly pilgrimage to the Global Ecovillage Conference and looks forward to reporting on the Maui Ecovillage scene.
This event is free and open to the public. It starts at 7 p.m. at the Pukalani Community Center poolroom annex (adjacent to the pool, across from Foodland).
