Alan Kaufman, president of the J. Walter Cameron Center's board of directors, has announced the appointment of Lyn Araki-Regan to the board.
"As we plan for our 40th anniversary celebration at the Yokouchi estate on June 8, we are fortunate to live in a community that values the type of dedicated service exemplified by Lyn's commitment to the center's mission of assisting persons with special needs," said Kaufman. "I look forward to the energy and ideas she will bring to the board."
Cesar Gaxiola, the center's executive director, welcomed Araki-Regan to the board and noted the management and operational experience she brings from both the private and public sector.
Araki-Regan is a graduate of Baldwin High School. She has a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Santa Clara University and received her law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai'i.
She was economic development coordinator for the County of Maui from January 2003 to December 2006 and is the founder and president of CalendarMaui.com.
The J. Walter Cameron Center, located at 95 Mahalani St. in Wailuku, is home to 16 resident social service agencies: Fun Day Foundation, American Lung Association of Hawai'i, ARC of Maui County, Best Buddies International, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Hawai'i, Heritage Hall Inc., Hui No Ke Ola Pono Inc. and Imua Family Services, Ka Lima O Maui, Maui Chamber of Commerce, Maui Community Mental Health, Mediation Services of Maui, Mental Health Association of America, MEO K_hi Kamali'i, and the Pacific Cancer Foundation.
These agencies are estimated to provide services to as many as 30,000 people annually.
Cameron Center meeting facilities that can be rented by the public provide space to over two hundred community organizations and businesses throughout the year and serve as many as 40,000 people annually.
