Rotary Club of Kahului President Robert Kawahara and the Alexander & Baldwin Inc./A&B Foundation have announced that the club will present its 2013 Palaka Award on Friday, Aug. 2. The award for long-term service honors an outstanding Maui County nonprofit organization leader from a field of nominated finalists.
Nominations for the prestigious Palaka Award are now open and may be filed online at www.kahuluirotary.com. The nominations deadline is June 30.
The 2013 honorees and finalists are selected by a committee of Kahului Rotary members. The nominees must have a minimum of five years of service exemplifying the highest ideals of volunteerism to a Maui County nonprofit and "Service Above Self," Rotary International's motto. Additionally, they must demonstrate significant and enduring impact for both the organization they serve and the community.
A golf ball drop will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, to raise funds for the Rotary Club of Kahului’s Michael H. Lyons II Scholarship program.
The recipient of the 2013 Palaka Award will be announced at the King Kamehameha Golf Club during a special annual luncheon ceremony.
A fundraising golf ball drop is planned prior to the awards luncheon.
Net proceeds of both events directly fund the Rotary Club of Kahului's Michael H. Lyons II Scholarship program, providing college scholarships for exceptional Maui youth.
