Help Maui County Improve Our Parks

With an easy online survey.

In an effort to get even more people in and enjoying Maui's public parks and facilities, the Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation has created a survey in hopes of gathering public input as to what is wanted and/or needed to make our parks better.

The 14-and-Under Youth Basketball Division is nearing the halfway point after games Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18 and 19.

On Tuesday, Willy Moser scored 14 points leading the Night Marchers to a 40-36 overtime-win against Elite-Mauka. Emma Hanlon had a game-high 20 points for Elite-Mauka.

Iverson Turno's 15 points and Sheldon Frias' eight points paced Lahaina-White's 44-33 win over Elite. Isaiah Richards hit five out of seven three-point shot attempts, and scored a game high 19 points for Elite.

Tavake Faleta scored 17 points and Chris Kaniho added 12 as Lahaina-Red defeated Elite-Makai 46-34. Sione He and Kevin Cacho led Elite-Makai with six points apiece.

Wednesday's action started with the Kihei Boyz staying unbeaten, rolling over Southside's Finest 65-15. Tristan Nichols led the Boyz, scoring 19 points. Isaiah Buduan's six points was tops for Southside.

Next, Lahaina-Red ran past Maui Lani 43-17. Tavake Faleta was once again Lahaina's top scorer with 12 points, with newcomer Gage Johnson chipping in 10. Joshua Pederson led Maui Lani with six points.

Finishing up the night, the Honey Badgers outscored Elite 54-45. Chandler Dobson had a big night, scoring 21 points for the Honey Badgers, matched by Elite's Raider Damuni who also scored 21.

Six games were played on Saturday, June 22 at P'ia Gym. Results will be published soon.


Makule softball (age 40 and over) got the week started with three games on Monday, June 10.

Wasabi defeated Da Bruddas 9-6, and Brudda Kikas broke open a tight game in the late innings, beating Pizza Madness 14-9.

The highlight of the night was 65-year-old Nelvin Ruiz going three-for-three, with one RBI, leading En Fuego to a 5-4 win over previously unbeaten Jus Enuff.

On Monday, June 17, started with Blue Collar getting by Wasabi 7-5. Scott Buckles led Blue Collar, going two-for-three, with one RBI. Clay Fernandez was also two-for-three, with one RBI to lead Wasabi.

A week after shocking the world with their win over the league's top team, En Fuego got shut out by Da Braddas 14-0. Dave Hammerstein and Eric Astrins went a combined six-for-six, each hitting homeruns, and knocked in seven runs for Da Braddas.

Jus Enuff rebounded from their loss to En Fuego by pounding Brudda Kikas 23-7. Kevin Fanara was 4/4 and 2 rbi's for Jus Enuff.


We will start a Girls' 12-and-Under Basketball League soon but we still need more girls to sign up. Girls interested in playing should call the Kihei Parks office at 879-4533.
