Saturday, June 22, was Pa'ia Gym day for our 14 & Under Youth Basketball League teams, with six games played.
Kihei Boyz got the day started with a 60-41 win over Elite (Makai). Keo Chun scored 19 points for the Boyz, while Sione He's 12 points led Elite.
Led by Iverson Turno's nine points and Sheldon Frias' six, Lahaina (White) got by the Honey Badgers 28-17. Chandler Dobson topped the Honey Badgers, scoring seven points.
The middle game of the day saw L.J. Lindsey score 22 points as Southside's Finest defeated Elite 42-31. Raider Damuni's 12 points led Elite.
Kihei Boyz took the court again, and got 25 points from Tristan Nichols in their 69-34 win over Maui Lani. Maui Lani's top scorer was Joel Anien with four points.
Carter Locke and Augustus Elsa scored 12 points each leading Lahaina (Red) past the all girl Elite (Mauka) team 66-24. Kayjan Pahukoa hit two three-pointers while leading Elite (Mauka) with nine points.
After a loss earlier, the Honey Badgers rebounded with a hard fought 39-34 win over the Night Marchers in the final game of the day. Chandler Dobson led the Honey Badgers again with 12 points, offsetting Night Marcher's Kamahi Carter's game high 14 points.
Games on the Tuesday, June 25, opened with Southside's Finest beating the Night Marchers 47-41 behind a game-high 20 points from L.J. Lindsey. Night Marchers were led again by Kamahi Carter's 19 points.
Steven Aukai-Kama's 13 points paced Lahaina (White)'s 39-24 win over Elite (Makai).
In a battle of two Elite teams, Elite led Elite (Mauka) 25-11 at halftime, then had to hold on for a tight 44-38 win. Raider Damuni scored nine points for Elite, while Emma Hanlon scored a game-high 13 points to lead Elite (Mauka).
Three games on the Wednesday, June 26, wrapped up another great week of ball in Kihei. Maui Prep, a new team added for the remainder of the season, lost their inaugural game to the Honey Badgers 40-23. Isaiah Tanner scored 16 points for the Honey Badgers, while Adam Quandt had 10 points for Maui Prep.
Next, Lahaina (White) just got by Maui Lani 26-20 with Iverson Turno leading the way with 13 points. Newcomer Derek Perez topped Maui Lani with 10 points.
Lastly, Kihei Boyz cruised to a 48-14 win over Lahaina (Red) with Tristan Nichols again led the way with 14 points.
Jus Enuff opened the Makule (40-and-over) softball action on Monday, June 24, with 22-0 rout of Pizza Madness, scoring 17 of those runs over a two-inning span. Paul Ciraulo was the big bat, going two-for-three, with five RBIs.
Jamie Thompson sacrifice fly scored the go ahead, and eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth as Da Braddas edged Brudda Kikas 5-4.
Kurt Petersen's five-RBI night paced Blue Collar to an easy 15-1 win over En Fuego.
Makule games continue every Monday night at South Maui Community Park.
