Maui Hands Gallery in Makawao will present pastelist Kathleen O'Bryan every Monday in August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The artist will demonstrate her technique using undiluted, dry pigment soft pastels on black paper.
O'Bryan, a Makawao resident, has made her living as professional fine artist for more than 35 years, participating in solo, group and juried exhibitions in world-class cultural art markets in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and on Maui.
As a fine art colorist, Kathleen discovered she could create saturated hues that brought emotional expressions to expansive skies and infinite landscapes using undiluted, dry pigment soft pastello. She found that painting on black paper rather than white as her ground eliminates all light and wave competition, which allows the pastel medium to achieve the radiant brilliance found in nature.
Kathleens work is also on display in the Maui Hands Gallery, located at 1169 Makawao Ave. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 572-2008 for more information or visit firstname.lastname@example.org.
