Dr. Erin Elster, D.C. has opened her Upper Cervical Chiropractic office at 296 Alamaha St. in Kahului.
Dr. Elster's Upper Cervical Care focuses on misalignment of the upper cervical (neck) area of the spine (the atlas and axis). Two state-of-the-art diagnostic tools-- Paraspinal Infrared Imaging and Digital Radiography--are utilized to analyze and correct the upper cervical misalignments.
"These misalignments are often generated through physical trauma to the head and neck, such as through falls, sports injuries, auto accidents, whiplash, blows to the head, concussions, etc.," said Dr. Elster. "Unfortunately, many patients have suffered with the consequences of these injuries for years, not knowing that a blow to the head or whiplash, if not properly treated, could later lead to other symptoms."

Dr. Elster said patients with conditions that include chronic neck pain, numbness and tingling, nerve pain, migraine and cluster headaches, dizziness and vertigo disorders, whiplash and post-concussion syndrome may benefit from treatment.
In each patient's case, an upper cervical evaluation is necessary to assess whether an upper cervical injury is present and whether benefit from care may be achieved, said the doctor.
Dr. Elster has published 10 research papers discussing the benefits of upper cervical chiropractic care with a number of neurological disorders. Due to her landmark studies, Dr. Elster was named the World Chiropractic Alliance's Researcher of the Year in 2001.
Having maintained a license in Colorado for 17 years while practicing in Boulder, Dr. Elster is pleased to bring her upper cervical experience to her new practice on Maui.
Dr. Elster, a graduate of the University of California and Palmer College of Chiropractic, is certified by the International Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association.
