$800,000 for bus stop, sign installations

August 22, 2013
Maui Weekly

Maui County's Department of Transportation will receive $800,000 in federal funds for its program to install bus stops and signs, according to an announcement by U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz.

The bus stops will comply with requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

"With the growing need for public transportation across our state, this grant will encourage equal access to transportation services, help to ease traffic congestion and aid our efforts to move away from a dependence on foreign oil," Schatz said.

This project was selected on a competitive basis from the Federal Transit Administration's Bus Livability Initiative.
