The Kamole Water Treatment Plant (WTP) will be shut down on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16 and 17, while contractors work on new electrical system switch gear. The WTP will stop operations at 7 a.m. Monday morning and restart service by noon Tuesday.
During this time, customers in Kula, Makawao, Pukalani and Hali'imaile are asked to conserve water. The Po'okela Well and the Pi'iholo WTP will provide water for the area while Kamole is shut down.
The work is one of the last phases of the capital improvement project to install new pumps with high efficiency motors to replace the old pumps that were installed in 1976. These booster pumps are used to pump water up to the Lower and Upper Kula water systems during times of drought and will save the county electrical costs once they are fully operational.
Customers are asked to call the county Department of Water Supply's 24-hour service line at 270-7633 only if a water problem occurs.
