Maui community gathers in support those living with mental illness

Over 60 supporters of the Ho'omoana Foundation's Maui Mental Health Advocates and members from National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) gathered on the sidewalk along Ka'ahumanu Avenue in Kahului on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 5, for a sign-waving event in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week.

"We will be sign waving for the first time on Maui to bring awareness and positive education regarding mental health," said Ho'omoana Foundation Executive Director Lisa Darcy before the gathering. " we aim to continue our support of the mental health community."

NAMI provides education, advocacy and support for those, living with mental illness in Hawai'i and their families.

The Ho'omoana Foundation is dedicated to assisting financially and emotionally disadvantaged individuals to regain their confidence and ability to participate in their community.
