Keb’ Mo’

Grammy winner to bring Delta blues to The MACC.

October 17, 2013
Maui Weekly

He's been described as "a living link to the seminal Delta blues that travelled up the Mississippi River and across the expanse of America." That's an intriguing attribution for a musician, calling to mind all sorts of musical associations, from folk/roots to jazz and rock. And he is all this: Keb' Mo' is known for his post-modern blues style, influenced by many eras and genres.

Ordinarily, this would be a concert a Mauian might encounter only on the Mainland, but the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (The MACC) will present this three-time Grammy Award-winning blues musician to the stage of Castle Theater for a solo acoustic performance on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Keb' Mo's genre-blending artfulness, intuitive lyrics, unique guitar style, distinctive voice, and magnetic charisma on stage have won him a tremendously loyal fan base. He has been making critically acclaimed albums since 1994, when he released the self-titled debut album that made the music world take notice. His second release, "Just Like You," which celebrates the healing, almost joyful aspects of the blues (as contraindicative as that may seem), won the first of his three Grammy Awards. His third release was "Suitcase" in 2006, and the latest album, "The Reflection," is a journey deep into life and an even greater expansion of his musical body of work.
