Wailea chefs compete at community fundraiser for Best Buddies Hawai‘i.

Dessert-lovers have more than one good reason to attend The Shops at Wailea's fourth annual Life Is Sweet event. To mark the occasion, Wailea's top chefs will compete to create a Signature Dessert for 2013, and the public is invited to sample the entries as part of a community fundraiser for Best Buddies Hawai'i. Sweet!

Best Buddies' mission is to create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This "Life Is Sweet" celebration sponsored by Wailea Beach Marriott and The Shops at Wailea will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the shopping plaza.

Life is Sweet guests will enjoy live music, a silent auction, samplings of savory entrees, pūpū, wine and a variety of delicious desserts, as Wailea’s top chefs vie for the prestigious Signature Dessert award at The Shops at Wailea on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The event will feature delicious desserts and samplings of savory entrees created by some of the most renowned chefs from South Maui's famous resorts and restaurants.

Last year's entrants were Wailea Beach Marriott, Grand Wailea Resort, The Fairmont Wailea, Gannon's-Joe's Bar & Grill, Longhi's Wailea, Tommy Bahama, Ruth's Chris, Merriman's Monkeypod Kitchen, Fabiani's and Mulligan's On the Blue.

Celebrity judges will be on-hand for the dessert competition along with great live Hawaiian music. There's will be an incredible silent auction where you'll find great deals and gifts for the holidays: two-night resort stays at Maui's finest resorts and island activities, products and services.

There will also be a complimentary wine-tasting party with pupu, where guests can meet and mingle with the celebrity judges. The celebrity hosts for this year's event are Actress Maureen McCormick (aka, Marcia from the classic 1970's television sitcom, "The Brady Bunch") and comedian-actor Andy Bumatai ("In The Car").
