ADVERTISEMENT - ProArts proudly presents "The Play's The Thing" as the first production of its spring season opening Feb. 14 (Valentine's Day). Written by Ferenc Molnr and adapted by P.G. Wodehouse, this sophisticated farce has a stellar cast providing lots of laughs. It's the mid 1920s and playwrights Turai and Mansky, and their protege, Albert, have arrived at the Italian Riviera to surprise their diva and Albert's fiance, Ilona. Unbeknownst to them, Ilona's former lover and mentor, a pompous actor named Almady, has intruded on her stay. The trio overhears Ilona and Almady in a compromising moment. So, in order to save their operetta, Turai has to induce Ilona and Almady to pretend that they were actually rehearsing a play. Turai must first write this play, which includes the foolish words of their own creation. Fanciful, farcical, fruity, frivolous and very funny things happen at the castle, and the happy ending is inevitable.
The show plays Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. through March 2 (no performance on Sunday, Feb. 16).
The ProArts Playhouse is located in the Azeka (Makai) Shopping Center at 1280 South Kihei Road in Kihei.
