Makawao Union Church has announced its 2nd Annual Chair-Ish Maui Recycled Art Contest. This fundraising project is meant to keep good, usable "stuff" out of the landfill, through the creation of functional and decorative art.
Event organizers will provide contest participants with an old, rusty metal folding chair, which can be picked up at the church through March 31. The object of the contest is to decorate the chair in any way you wish--painting, beading, stenciling, upholstering--and return it to the church on April 6.
The top 10 winners will receive prizes of merchandise and services donated by local businesses.
Lisa Burke transformed a rusty old folding chair into a “Funny Kine Chair” for first place in last year’s contest.
The entry fee is $15 and includes the chair.
The chair must fold and unfold when you're finished decorating it.
If you wish, you can name a price for your chair and possibly sell it during the event; all chairs will remain on display until April 20 at Makawao Union Church.
A percentage of the sale price will be donated to the church.
Stop by Makawao Union Church any Sunday before March 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to pick up your chair.
