Maui Weekly

Maui United Way is honored to be chosen as the primary beneficiary for The Color Run, which will take place on Sunday, March 30, beginning and ending at the University of Hawai'i Maui College campus (visit www.thecolorrun.com/maui for a race map and to register as a participant).

The Color Run, also known as "The Happiest 5K on the Planet," is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality. On Maui, it is expected to draw thousands of participants.

Now the single largest event series in the United States, The Color Run has exploded since its debut event in 2012. It has more than tripled in size, hosting more than 170 events in over 30 countries in 2013.

The Color Run will donate $40 to Maui United Way for every volunteer who selects Maui United Way or any of its 40 nonprofit partner agencies during registration.

Less about your 10-minute mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, untimed race in which participants, "Color Runners," are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. There are only two rules: 1. Wear white at the starting line; 2. Finish plastered in color!

The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger-than-life party includes with music, dancing and massive color throws.

Individual runners can register for $45 until March 14. Starting Saturday, March 15, individual registration is $50.

Team members (four or more runners) can register for $40 until March 15, when the fee increases to $45 per team member.

Pre-registration will also be held on Friday, March 28, at Sports Authority and Saturday, March 29, at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The start-line window will open at 8 a.m., with waves going every few minutes. Make sure you plan your day with plenty of time. At The Color Run, the start line is its own pre-race party with music, dancing, warm-up stretching and giveaways!

As part of its beneficiary responsibilities, Maui United Way will provide a minimum of 150 volunteers. Race day volunteers are needed to help from 6 a.m. to noon for a variety of tasks, including handing out water, assisting with check-in, tossing color, revving up the crowd at the finish festival and more.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to support a large number of nonprofits on Maui. The Color Run will donate $40 to Maui United Way for every volunteer who selects Maui United Way or any of its 40 nonprofit partner agencies during registration.

To register to volunteer and for more information about Maui United Way's partner agencies, visit www.mauiunitedway.org or call (808) 244-8787.

Businesses interested in registering a volunteer team may call Maui United Way directly.

Volunteers must be at least 15 years old and be able to work an entire shift. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing you don't mind getting dirty.

Don't forget about all the fun you'll have, too!
