The name of Helen Keller is known around the world as a symbol of courage in the face of overwhelming odds, yet she was much more than a symbol. She was a woman of luminous intelligence, high ambition and great accomplishment.
The neglected deaf, blind and mute Helen (played by Pua Kepler) was raised like wild animal. Scared out of her wits, she is murderously strong, as she claws, bites and fights with all who try to help her.
Jessica Chernicki portrays dedicated teacher Anne Sullivan and Pua Kepler gives an inspiring performance as Helen Keller in the Maui OnStage production of “The Miracle Worker.”

At a loss to connect with their daughter, the Kellers enlist the half-blind, youthful and inexperienced Anne Sullivan (Jessica Chernicki). Blessed with fanatical dedication and determination, Sullivan tackles the titanic undertaking to release the child from the terrifying prison of eternal darkness and silence.
This truthful account of Keller's beginnings and Sullivan's teaching singlehandedly changed the perspective towards all handicapped children throughout the world.
At Sullivan's deathbed 50 years later, Keller remained at her side, holding her hand.
