Undefeated No Ka Oi

Takes South Maui Men's Open Softball League Championship

No Ka Oi defeated the Redeye Souljahs18-10 on June 18 in the South Maui Men's Open Softball League championship game. The win capped an undefeated run through the season schedule and playoffs for No Ka Oi, ?nishing an impressive 15-0.

League Director Lyle Cummings would like to thank all participating players, teams and volunteers for a successful ?rst season, and has announced plans to start up the league again shortly after Labor Day. Any teams interested in playing should call Lyle at 357-3711.

SMYBL Regular Season Comes to a Close

The 15 & Under South Maui Youth Basketball League regular season games came to an exciting close last week. The playoffs will be held at the end of the month at times yet to be determined.


Monday, June 30

Kihei Boyz vs. Na Koa Ikaika

The Kihei Boyz got 19 points from Clarence Daguio and 18 from Darren Yadao, rolling over Na Koa Ikaika 62-32 to cap an undefeated season. Kainoa Stone's 10 points led Na Koa Ikaika.

Maui Lani vs. Team Standard

Taje Akaka scored a season high 32 points, and younger brother Chayce added 14 as Maui Lani outran Team Standard 64-40. Austin Peters and Keo Chun both scored 11 points for Team Standard.

Iao Boys vs. Flames

Iao Boys got 22 points from Warren Feike and 15 from Chayse Tamaki in their 59-42 win over the Flames. Ethan Manois-Bates, who scored a league season-high 35 points last week, couldn't match it this time, but still led the Flames with 16 points.


Wednesday, July 2

Upcountry Kings vs. 808 Elite

Balanced scoring led by Ian Abreu's 10 points helped the Upcountry Kings get by 808 Elite 46-20. Rebecca Reilley chipped in eight points, hitting all four of her shots. Perdon Abner and Raider Damuni scored six points each for 808.

Elite vs. Southside's Finest

Jaromir Guzman scored 20 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer with about a minute left in the game to lead Elite to a 42-37 win over Southside's Finest in a game that was close all the way. Mark Ranchez added 12 points for Elite. L.J. Lindsey's 13 points paced Southside's Finest.
