Enjoy a lovely summer evening with the whole family at a free and fun event-"The LEGO Movie" at Starry Night Cinema at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (The MACC) on Saturday, July 19.
Several times a year, The MACC presents its signature Starry Night Cinema events: kid-time movies shown on a huge outdoor screen, so families can roll in the strollers and wagons piled with kids and blankets and toys and pillows-and spread it all out on the lawn to relax and watch together as a community.
The next one up stars the "world's best toy ever" in "The LEGO Movie." This is an animated feature film about LEGO man Emmet, an ordinary guy who gets misidentified as "extra-ordinary." One might think this would be a good thing-except "Master Builder" Emmet is expected to save the LEGO universe from Lord Business and his super-weapon (which involves glue-the bane of all things LEGO, of course). Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously unprepared for this quest, but he finds a gaggle of other LEGO guys to help.
Unikitty, Benny, Emmet, Batman, Vitruvius, Wyldstyle and a host of other LEGO heroes work together on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant “Everything is cool when your part of the team.”
Come and watch how they stick together to make it all work somehow.
The LEGO Movie will start at 7:30 p.m., after sunset, but everyone is encouraged to come early (gates open at 6 p.m.) to score a good place on the lawn and take full advantage of the venue. There will be free art activities for keiki, live music by Dave Elberg, MACC ticket giveaways, and lots of family-friendly food and drink options.
The menu for the evening includes the ever-popular Sumo Dogs, as well as full-on dinners by Las Pinatas and Pascuals, and movie snacks like Maui Kazowie Kettle Korn, Tikiz Shave Ice, Cotton Candy Maui, and a full range of hot and cold beverages for kids and adults. (Sorry, but no coolers can be allowed into the amphitheater space.)
Starry Night Cinema is an outdoor movie event in the A&B Amphitheater/Yokouchi Pavilion that is fun, free and safe for families. Attendees bring their own blankets, mats or low-backed beach chairs, pick a spot on the lawn and watch the movie feature on the giant screen suspended across Yokouchi Pavilion. With the moon and stars shining above, it's a gorgeous evening! If, by chance, unseasonable rain occurs-no worries! The film will be moved indoors to the Castle Theater, with plenty seats available (on a first-come, first-served basis).
It's free and easy. "Everything is awesome!"
Starry Night Cinema is a free community event presented by The MACC with support from the County of Maui, Maui Film Festival, and H-Hawai'i Media/KONI Radio.
