Island Air recently announced its sponsorship of Best Buddies Hawai'i (BBHI), a nonprofit organization. Its mission is to establish a volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Best Buddies Hawai'i operates in a total of 17 middle schools and high schools on O?ahu and Maui.
Through this partnership, Island Air will provide flights to BBHI, supplying a valuable resource and enabling others to provide support and friendships to those challenged with disabilities.
"With this partnership, it is our hope to empower the volunteers and further the initiatives of Best Buddies Hawai'i," said Island Air CEO, Paul Casey. "We believe in the mission of this organization and are excited for this opportunity."

"This partnership with Island Air will greatly enhance the efficiency of our programs by allowing BBHI staff and board members to travel between Maui and O?ahu to grow our programs and fundraising events," said BBHI State Director Mike McCormick.
Best Buddies Hawai'i offers four programs on O?ahu and Maui that provide opportunities for inclusion, empowerment and friendship for adolescents (ages 12 to 20) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through BBHI's program of E-Buddies, IDD students are able to foster relationships with non-IDD students through an online "pen-pal" program, which simultaneously encourages computer literacy. Additionally, through the organization's Ambassadors Program, both IDD and non-IDD students are able to gain leadership development training and public speaking opportunities to foster growth, confidence and excellence.
