The County of Maui Office of Economic Development is offering once again their free “Brown Bag” workshops, presented at the Maui County Business Resource Center (MCBRC), located across from the Maui Mall in Kahului. All workshops are located here, unless otherwise noted. Join Bob and Josh Sommers of the Internet Marketing Association of Hawai‘i on Thursday, May 14, from noon to 1:15 p.m. for the workshop on “How to Get Your Business Listed at the Top of the Local Search Engine.” Learn how local searches work and how by utilizing this free tool you can make it easier for customers to find you. Attend two interesting workshops presented by the Maui County Food Technology Center on “How to Bring Food Products to Market.” Learn the steps that are involved in bringing a food product to market and how to develop value-added food products using goods grown locally. Part one will be held on Tuesday, May 19, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and covers business start-up issues such as creating a business plan, costs, licenses, insurance and understanding the food market industry. Part two will be held at the same time on Tuesday, May 26, and will deal with product processing, packaging, UPC codes, shipping and distribution. Authors, entrepreneurs, songwriters, artists, inventors and more can learn about the process of establishing and protecting their creativity on Wednesday, May 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m. with the workshop “Protecting Ideas and Avoiding Infringement: The Essentials of Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights and Trade Secrets.” Learn about “Starting a Business in Maui County” on Wednesday, May 27, from noon to 1:30 p.m. with Anna Ribucan of Maui County Office of Economic Development. This seminar will cover general information and requirements for starting a business in Maui County. Seating for all sessions are limited and reservations are requested.
