The Maui News - At least two of the airlines that fly between Hawai‘i and the Mainland have started taking additional steps to prevent the spread of swine flu, or H1N1 virus. Since mid-May, Hawaiian Airlines have been replacing blankets daily on every Mainland and international flight departing from Honolulu, and Alaska Airlines has removed all pillows and blankets from its planes. Two out of the six people identified with the swine flu in Hawai‘i had traveled recently to the Mainland. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued recommendations to airlines during the second week of this month to help prevent the virus from spreading.
