Join the Maui Harley Owners Group (HOG) on Sunday, June 28, for their Chili Cook-Off at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) grounds in Kihei.
Coming off the success of last year’s festivities, the Maui HOG Chapter #44 is excited to bring an even bigger and better event in its sixth year to benefit the Maui Harley Owners Group Charities.
This zesty event will give all of you who think your chili recipe is top-notch an opportunity to step up and flaunt your culinary skills. Bring what you consider to be the world’s best chili, and let the crowd be the judge.
Chili can be prepared and precooked beforehand, or contestants are more than welcome to prepare it at the VFW. Maui HOG will provide the utensils, plates and bowls.
Feel free to bring your favorite side items and desserts—such as killer cornbread—a perfect compliment to any chili recipe.
Judging will be done by ballot votes of those in attendance. Cash prizes will be given for the top three places in the General Category, which anyone can enter in. There is also a cash prize for best-decorated booth and a “winner-takes-all” in the Club Challenge Category, in which all motorcycle and classic car clubs are welcome to participate. Prizes and trophies awarded for both categories.
The entry fee is $25 and registration begins at 9 a.m. at Maui Harley Davidson in Kahului. Join in a picturesque run with some great folks as they cruise the Valley Isle, starting at 10 a.m., and end up at the VFW around 2 p.m. for some delicious food, fare and fun.
The Vince Esquire Band will provide some rocking blues to keep the festivities going throughout the afternoon. This is a wonderful opportunity to see one of music’s greatest talents perform live, right by the sea in South Maui while grinding on some good eats and enjoying the community camaraderie that Maui’s motorcycle and car clubs have developed over the years.
There will also be a Poker Run, 50/50 drawing, raffle and maybe even a silent auction. Beer and spirits will also be available for purchase.
Chapter #44 recently received its 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, which makes them a nonprofit able to accept tax-deductible donations. Although our pockets may not be as deep this year, this fundraiser is a great opportunity to give back without breaking the bank.
Every year, the Maui HOG Chapter #44 organizes an array of fundraisers that are orientated around their passion for the sport of motorcycling and motorcycles. Proceeds for events like these are collected and kept in their “Charity Fund Account” until they are dispersed to Maui nonprofits. Donations of any kind will be gratefully accepted before and during the Chili Cook-Off event.
“The beneficiaries of these monies are local charity organizations,” said club member Stewart Norrie. “We know your hard-earned and generously donated money/gift will have the biggest impact and benefit for the local Maui people, and not some Mainland organization.”
Former recipients include Maui Youth and Family Services, Women Helping Women, the Maui Food Bank, the VFW and many more. The annual Toys for Tots program during Christmas continues to be a huge success year after year.
Entry forms and more available at the City Cycle Maui (dba Maui Harley-Davidson/Buell) located at 150 Dairy Road in Kahului.
Meet there early morning on Sunday, June 28, for the motorcycle run or just head over to the VFW at 2305 Uluniu in Kihei for some tasty chili at 2 p.m.
