On Friday, June 26, the Board of Directors of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (The MACC) revealed that President and CEO Karen Fischer had resigned and a new co-leadership team, Art Vento and Teri Freitas-Gorman, will manage on an interim basis. Vento, executive vice president and general manager, will now assume the role of executive VP of operations. He will oversee all facility operations, development of revenue sources with commercial renters/promoters and continue to manage the final phase of construction. Freitas-Gorman is the new executive VP of external affairs and will oversee marketing, development, community relations and education. She first joined The MACC’s team in 1989 as part of the Capital Campaign, then headed to New Zealand and Florida for other arts and marketing jobs. For the past three years, she has served as the vice president of corporate communications for Maui Land & Pineapple Company. Gov. Linda Lingle appointed Wailuku-born Freitas-Gorman last year as Maui’s commissioner to the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
