11:56 a.m., Sugar Beach

Caretaker tells 911 he thinks that he sees a shark circling 30 yards offshore of his resort property. Police, DLNR, fire go. Turns out to be dolphins at play, per Fire Department crew.

2:26 p.m., Ha‘iku

Electric power failure.

3:30 p.m., Kahului

Keiki, 7 years old, locked inside car. Responding MFD Rescue 10 unit frees her within seven minutes. Grandmother absolutely refuses any medics checking out the child.

3:49 p.m., Wailuku

Electric power flips back on.

6:30 p.m., Happy Valley

Structure fire on Pu‘uohala Road. MFD Engine 1 goes.

6:57 p.m., Kahului Airport

Irate customer causing problems at rental car kiosk “near baggage claim,” says 911. Squad car goes.

7:56 p.m., Kahului

Outside very popular coffee house, two kids left in parked car unattended. Cops try locate their parents.

Sunday, March 16

10:04 a.m., Ha‘iku

Another woman “threatening to drive over from Pukalani and slap me in the mouth,” 911 is told. Police go to the caller’s place.

1:17 p.m., Kahului

Tracking apparently drunk driver weaving past sugar mill and turning toward Hana Highway on Dairy Road. 911 broadcasts locations, as called in by another driver with cell phone, for response by police cars.

2:28 p.m., Kahului

Zoomed off without paying for the new tires laboriously put on his vehicle. 911 broadcasts vehicle description and license plate.

3:39 p.m., Unknown location

No shoes on, no parents around. Baby, about 1 year old, walking around parking lot, completely unsupervised. Squad car goes.

3:46 p.m., Ha‘iku

Debris from red truck all over the roadway. “Unknown if any injuries,” says 911. Patrol car assigned to go to Kokomo Road.

4:25 p.m., Kihei

Physical fight across from old Suda Store site. Two males. “One has a knife,” 911 tells the patrol car being dispatched. “He’s chasing the other now, Ma‘alaea direction.”

6:34 p.m., Ha‘iku

Public nuisance complaint. “Neighbor burning what smells like some type of covering on wire,” says 911 caller. Resulting acrid smoke makes breathing difficult. Squad car goes.

7:44 p.m., Waiehu

Report of another physical fight. Two males. Police go.

10:34 p.m., Pukalani

Male customer, 50 years of age, collapsed on floor of well-known fast food restaurant. Conscious, but cannot get up. MFD Engine 5 assigned first responder.

Monday, March 17

12:37 p.m., Nakalele Blowhole

“Female with broken ankle dangling,” callers say. Unable to walk out of rugged area. MFD Fire unit 1 assigned to go to North Maui.

Tuesday, March 18

9:55 a.m., Central Maui

Police officer radios that the carcass of a deer intrudes onto the roadway tenth of a mile from landfill. 911 informs other agencies.

2:49 p.m., Ha‘iku

“Brush fire,” says caller. MFD units go. Engine 2 becomes Maliko Command and radios “1,500 square feet of fallen pine needles ablaze, down in a gulch.”

6:20 p.m., Kihei

Condo dweller complains female neighbor seems to be on drugs. “Throwing things around, music blaring,” is the complaint. “She [the caller] doesn’t feel safe,” says 911. Police go.

Wednesday, March 19

7:59 a.m., Kahului

Police officer reports oil spill. “Your transmissions are unreadable,” replies 911.” Eventually, MFD Ladder 3 goes cleanup.

9:07 a.m., Lahaina

Industrial accident. “Man with crushed fingers when motor vehicle hood slammed down on his hand.” Fire unit gets his blood pressure reading while awaiting medics.

6:11 p.m., Lana‘i

Sick passengers aboard a ship being transferred by Zodiac to shore. Lower back problems. MFD Engine 8 will meet them at Manele for transport to Lana‘i Hospital.

Thursday, March 20

7:50 a.m., Kihei

Four-vehicle crash on Kaiwahine off Pi‘ilani, per 911. “Injuries. One woman complains of neck pain.” Squad car goes, emergency. Officer requests that another police car be dispatched to control morning rush hour traffic. “Heavy glass damages scattered all over the roadway.”

9:08 a.m., Kahului

Dairy Road bakery manager complains to 911 that yet another manager is being verbally abusive to customers and other staff alike. Asks for police.

9:36 a.m., Kahului

“Situation at the Dairy Road bakery still going on,” says frustrated 911 caller. Police officer radios 911 for that caller’s cell phone number.
