8:21 a.m., Kihei

Utility lines snapped on Ohukai, now lying across a hedge, says caller. “May still be live.” Utilities company notified by 911.

8:31 a.m., Kahului

Male and female allegedly smoking ice as they cruise along in a Jeep. This called in by another driver following them since Kihei. “Unfortunately, all available police units are busy with calls elsewhere,” says 911. So, that following vehicle keeps relaying information via cell phone, to 911.

10:27 a.m., Kula

Wants police to remove a contractor from her property. “Ongoing problem of several years,” is the quote. Police go.

Sunday, April 6

12:56 p.m., Kahului

Male unconscious but breathing. Medics, police.

Monday, April 7

9:23 a.m., Unknown

Punched in the mouth by irate ex-employee, the bleeding manager resolutely refuses medical attention. Police at scene.

12:35 p.m., Dairy Road

Dead cat in middle of driveway at motorcycle dealership. Request 911 has someone remove it.

3:41 p.m., Pukalani

At first, callers said there were just two boys in a fight. Then quickly, it turned into a gang fight. Over 30 youngsters, reportedly, in a melee “just below the county swimming pool.” Cops go there emergency. But by time they can arrive, everyone involved has vanished.

5:50 p.m., Kahului

Male and female in physical fight in harbor-side hotel. Police go.

6 p.m., Dairy Road

Heated confrontation among drivers and others at a gas station after a rush hour fender bender. No cops immediately available. Busy elsewhere. Some police do arrive, but much later.

6:08 p.m., Happy Valley

911 uses phone GPS system to locate that guy who called up threatening to hack others using a machete. Police go get him by the pinpointed bridge.

Tuesday, April 8

9:59 a.m., West Side

“Large red dog seen bounding alongside Lahaina-bound highway traffic.” Cop asks “Near the tunnel? On the Pali?” “Lahaina-bound” is 911 Central’s reply.

1: 59 p.m., Kahului

Fronting the old Star Market building, two males duke it out in physical fight “Next to a red Toyota and a Ford Forerunner,” says 911. “Go emergency”

4:56 p.m., Unknown

Female claiming ex-husband just tried to run her off the road. Will await police by gold-colored Ford Focus.

6:53 p.m., Kahului

Cars crash near Borders bookstore on Dairy Road. “Airbags deployed,” says 911. Police assigned.

9:13 p.m., Kahului

“Male party stabbed himself in the chest,” says 911. Police, medics.

Wednesday, April 9

11:10 a.m., Happy Valley

“Male grabbed someone else’s guitar, jumped into a beige pickup and sped off with it,” says 911. Apparently, the alleged thief is a drug addict and well known to police. One officer immediately suggests keeping an eye out for the wanted man by Wailuku row of pawnbroker shops.

6 p.m., Pukalani

“Female hitting male with a two-by-four,” says 911. Police go.

6:59 p.m., Central Valley

“Older white Toyota pickup weaving all over the road,” caller tells 911. “Almost hit guardrail on Honoapi‘ilani, continued onto Kuihelani headed for Kahului.” Police car dispatched.

Thursday, April 10

8:15 a.m., Ha‘iku

Something about the way their car is parked, with two males, two females inside, makes the 911 caller suspect drug activity may be going on. Prowl car quietly to area.

9:20 a.m., Happy Valley

Caller reports person wrapped in colorful blanket face down in riverbed at Kahawai Street. Dead or alive? MFD Engine 1 asked to go, first responder.

3 p.m., Lahaina

Falling coconut hit her car like a missile. Wants police to document damages. Officer asked to go there.

4:40 p.m., Wailuku

“Male said luring kids to his car by distributing candy” near St. Anthony’s parking lot, per 911. Perp driving a gray-colored Scion. Prowl car goes.

5:41 p.m., Kahului

Woman called her own home and a male stranger’s voice answered. Only her daughter and a well-known friend are supposed to be there, she says. Wants police to go check. Assigned.

6:05 p.m., Kihei

Caller says a Filipino male and Tongan female have been screaming at each other for over half an hour while standing in the house driveway. Getting tired of hearing all that. Area police car responds.

6:22 p.m., Upcountry

Frightened caller heard two gunshots nearby. Doesn’t want to get involved. But does want cops to check the area. Two police cars go.

6:28 p.m., Central Valley

“White sedan chasing a blue sedan,” says 911. “Driving recklessly on Kuihelani, Kahului-bound.” Police lay in wait.

6:30 p.m., Kahului schoolyard

Dad tells 911 his son is being harassed by other basketball court youths. Squad car dispatched.
