Upstairs neighbor using too much bug spray. “Choking out,” says the downstairs 911 caller. Fire Engine 14 asked to respond.
8:20 p.m., Wailuku
Physical struggle between a father and his son is audible over the phone to 911. Then the line goes dead. Police go.

8:32 a.m., Maui Prince
Female, 23, stung by bee. Allergic reaction is feared by her. MFC Ladder 14 heads to the hotel loading dock, until medics can arrive.
8:34 a.m., Napili
They woke up to find graffiti sprayed all over the Napili condo property. Cars included. “Unknown responsibles” says 911. Police assigned.
9:10 a.m., Kahului
Yet another Dairy Road collision. This one by the Shell gas station. Police.
9:15 a.m., Kahekili Highway
Female caller tells 911 she’s pretty sure a car went off the cliff. Can barely spot the wreckage, so far down, in the bushes. Below the Makamakaole Lookout, mile 8. Police unit assigned.
Tuesday, July 1
12:14, Pa‘ia Beach
Hot weather. “Give us case numbers for open lewdness at Baldwin Beach Park,” says a male police officer on 911 radio. “Open lewdness?” repeats the 911 operator. “Three different persons are gonna be arrested for nudity over here,” says another cop at that scene.
1:55 p.m., Kailua
“Car crash near EMI baseyard,” says 911. “Report of injuries.” MFC Engine 2 dispatched from Pa‘ia, medic 11 rerouted to go from far away Kula.
4:18 p.m., Wailea
“Green Jeep apparently hit a tree,” 911 is saying. “Male driver with bleeding head injury. Reportedly the vehicle is also on fire.” MFC Tanker 14, medics, dispatched emergency.
4:43 p.m., Kihei
Female complainant says her boyfriend is throwing things around inside their place while children are there, too. Police officer goes.
7:13 p.m., West Side Pali Scenic Lookout
“Just past the lookout,” 911 caller says, “vehicle went off the road and plunged into the ocean.” “Unknown if anyone inside,” radios 911. Police soon confirm they do indeed see an automobile under the water, lights on. Emergency rescue response, including Air One helicopter, activated. Meanwhile, Maui detectives track down that car’s registered owner using the license plates of that underwater vehicle. He tells them, they say, no one was inside when it went over the cliff. That cars owner is reportedly detained by police. A woman with him is reportedly detained as well.

“Lifeguard stand on fire at Kamole Beach Park I.” No action announced.
8:27 p.m., Kahului
Power pole at back of the Enterprise Rental Car Kahului lot reportedly started shooting sparks, like fireworks, “but no flames” is the early report. Responding fire engine crew at first says “no big deal,” but soon after, transformers blow out by the nearby Maui Mall followed by a power and lights blackout all the way down Hana Highway to the Haleakala 37 turn.

8:40 a.m., Lahaina
Demolition and construction near shacks in back of the old Maui Medical Group buildings uncover buried tanks marked “Hydrogen Peroxide” and an also buried cooler with other unlabeled liquids in jugs. 911 Central calls in Hazmat 10 to carefully handle all that stuff.
8:45 a.m., Pa‘ia
Caller to 911 says he stumbled across human bones, maybe ancient. Police officer assigned the case.
2:35 p.m., Kula
Kolohala Place landlord wants an individual refusing to leave there “off the property at once.” Police go.

“Sound of a loud car crash,” says 911 caller, “by Rainbow Park.” Police assigned.
Friday, July 4
4 p.m., Kahului
Report of two different rip-offs from two different parked Jeep vehicles. Suitcases stolen in both thefts. One over by Sears, the other by Kmart—both incidents within an hour of each other. A white Ford Focus with male driver and another indistinguishable person in the back seat, were seen very near the Jeep burglarized in the Ka‘ahumanu Center case. Police search for the perps.
