“Following up on a spilling load,” radios one patrol officer. “Bricks scattered on the roadway.”
8:30, a.m., Kahului
Silent alarm at farm animal feed store. Overhead doors. Police.
8:33, Olowalu
“Unattached door flew off a black pickup truck traveling in front of me and hit my car,” caller tells 911. That same spilling load truck is still going toward Lahaina, she says, perhaps unaware of what just happened. She’s following it. Police go, too.
8:17 p.m., Maliko Gulch
“White Nissan Pathfinder flipped on its side,” says 911. No major injuries reported. Police, Fire Engine 2, go.
8:40 p.m., Wailea
Answering another call at the Grand Wailea, medics and firemen are surprised to be diverted by hotel security to come to the aid of a collapsed housekeeper. “She’s got a pulse, but she’s not breathing” says one fireman. Medics join in that rescue attempt.
8:55 p.m., Kahului
“Caller says Kahului Post Office door is propped open,” says 911. “At this hour of night, it should normally be closed.” Patrols cars go. “Yeah, were gonna’ need someone to come and lock this,” says an arriving officer. “Did you check inside?” asks another cop. “It’s just the vestibule area leading to the post office boxes,” is his reply.
Monday, July 14
7:30 a.m., Kihei
Caller allegedly saw tiger shark, or tiger sharks, off Old Suda pier. Police officer cruises by to check. 911 pages the DLNR who send a rep from Upcountry.
5:40 p.m., Wailea
“Local couple” said seen paying a cashier with large amount traveler’s check. Something about it seems suspicious, says the 911 caller. Detectives get involved.
5:43 p.m., Unknown
“Tiger shark, 18 feet in length, seen offshore.” So an officer radios 911 matter-of-factly and that info is received the same way. No responsive action indicated by either party.
5:55 p.m., Makawao
“They’re back again!” says 911. Another report among many today of “juvies” [juveniles] driving recklessly around various parts of the island in a Red Jeep. This time they take off weaving on Kaukaplua Road, headed in Ha‘iku direction.
Tuesday, July 15
9:25 a.m., Kula
“Traffic stop fronting Kulamalu,” radios a patrol officer. Then, not long after: “One adult male in custody.” Another officer radios: “Transporting adult male.”
10:55 a.m., Kahului Airport
“Airport security says they may have detained an illegal immigrant,” says 911. MPD officers go.
11:10 a.m., Lahaina
First Hawaiian Bank says one Hispanic male still there is trying to cash fraudulent traveler’s checks. He has no idea that the cops have been alerted. Police go. Suspect is apprehended.
11:18 p.m., Paukukalo
After banging into gas pumps, a cream-colored 87 Volvo fled Waiehu-direction. License plate numbers and registered owners information is broadcast by 911.
11:55 a.m., Unknown
Yet another travelers check scam. Woman described as “local,” chubby, tattoos all over, black hat, attracted suspicion while trying to cash a travelers check for $500. She is detained by arriving police and charged on the spot with Forgery 2. Her tall, lean, also tattooed, also local, male companion, also wearing a black hat, vanished.
12:42 p.m., Wailuku
“Juvenile runaway turning himself in,” says Central. At main police station desk.
4:12 p.m., Ka‘anapali
Garbage truck jammed and stuck under a Highway 30 bridge. Police.
4:15 p.m., Kihei
Pi‘ikea Street business owner very upset after being told that two $500 traveler’s checks she happily tried to deposit are phony fakes. Police sent to that Central Pacific Bank branch, all per 911.
6:30 p.m., Maui Memorial Medical Center
Emergency room personnel say two local families giving each other stink-eye, act like they might clash any minute. Each family has a son being treated at ER after each was allegedly injured in physical fight between the two. Security guards standing by. All the above heard on 911 radio.

11:25 a.m., Kapalua
Several juveniles detained by security guards for alleged trespassing on private properties. Others said to be still “running around in there.” MPD police dispatched by 911.
Thursday, July 17
5 p.m., Pa‘ia
Fire blazes hrough a cane field between Baldwin Beach Park entrance and Youth Center. Police, fire units, keep it from spreading.
5:30 p.m., Kihei Junction
Caller claims traffic lights are showing green in both opposing directions. A patrol car goes, officer says they’re working just fine.
6 p.m., Unknown
“Those are kids trying to recatch their pet pig,” 911 tells callers alarmed by sounds of squealing, screaming and shouting,
