9:25 a.m. Kihei

Child abuse alleged by 911 caller. Kid next door keeps shouting “No!” Then crying for hours. Police go. “It’s just a mother and child together,” radios one police officer

9:52 a.m., Kihei

“Female. No sleep for days. Hallucinating, possibly psychotic.” So 911 warns responding officers. Police go.

10:18 a.m., Kula

“Large pit bull chasing the chickens in callers yard,” intones 911. Squad car.

10:50 a.m., 911 dispatch

Party calling Maui 911 from O‘ahu regarding welfare of two little girls.

“Saying the parents may be on drugs.” Police go to check on the two girls. An officer soon reports, “With the Mom, and all three are just fine”

12:30 p.m., Kihei

Yellow inflatable boat said kept from coming back in because of strong seaward blowing winds. Sugar Beach high-rise condo dwellers keep 911 informed on that ongoing situation. MFC Engine 6, Coast Guard, and Air One helicopter crew are all alerted. Soon the jet-ski gets near the stranded craft.

12:40 p.m., Kailua

“Road rage in progress” says 911. “Beat up, brown, old pickup truck being tailgated by driver in a green sports car.” The pickup driver, on cell phone, is appealing for police to help. A police car is told as it heads out from Ulumalu to intervene.

12:45 p.m., Kihei

“Their door has been propped ajar for two days now,” the condo manager tells 911. “And clothes have been left drying out on the Lanai. But there’s no answer to our calls.” Police go.

Monday, August 11

7:45 p.m., Kanaha Beach Park

“Male under arrest,” radios police officer. No reason why given.

Monday, August 11

2:40 p.m., Kahului

Caller tells 911 she thinks she’s spotted those thieves who have been stealing gasoline from Maui County vehicles parked at the baseyard. “They’re driving a beat-up blue Camry,” Central is told. A cop finds that described car and radios, “Those people calling might have their facts mixed up”

6:47 p.m., Pukalani

Caller saying neighbor’s propane tank broke and is hissing. “Stinks of gas, even inside our house,” says caller. Fire units go.

7:06 p.m., Kahului

“Family member threatening to come over and shoot everyone in the house,” says 911. Area police alerted.

Tuesday, August 12

8:50 a.m., Maui Meadows

Loud argument between man and woman. “At cottage, back of an orange house,” alarmed callers tell 911. The female involved reportedly left in a huff, on foot. Police go.

9:58 A.M., Pa‘ia

“Structure fire reported,” says 911. Smoke inside residence. “Unknown if people inside”. Tanker 10, Hazmat 10, respond. Turns out to be a kitchen fire. “Only blackened pans,” deadpans one fireman.

Wednesday, August 13

1:07 p.m., Slaughterhouse, North Maui

“Both sides of highway on cliffs above the beach jammed with erratically parked cars. Impossible for pineapple and other trucks to get through” says 911caller. Police go.

Thursday, August 14

9:08 a.m., Maui Lani Area

Report of “tiles spilled in middle of roadway”, says 911. Police go first. “Cleared up” report comes 15 minutes later.

9:19 a.m., Wailuku

Process server asks for police help. Near High Street, fierce verbal confrontation from party he is serving papers on. Squad car.

9:20 a.m., Launiupoko

Shark sighting. “Three 10-foot or so sharks seen Puamana side.” “The oceanside surf school pulled all its people out of the water but body surfers, farther out, are still going for it” say 911 callers. DLNR is asked to get involved.
