Blond Caucasian female in black dress reportedly on the ground screaming. “As a crowd gathers,” 911 relays” it’s being said that her dog just got run over.” Police go, but find no scene like that at the South Kihei Road address given. Bystanders now say that female was driven away in a black Mazda. No word of any dog.
12:50 p.m., Keokea
“Man who stepped out of a navy blue pickup truck is seen stripping a silver Honda. The location is just above Sun Yat Sen parking lot,” says 911. “Not quite sure what’s going on there.” Police car dispatched.
Saturday, August 16
9:10 a.m., Hali‘imaile
“Near shooting range, two cows are roving the busy transverse road,” so drivers, who narrowly missed them, tell 911 on cellphone. Police go there. One police officer tracks down their owner, who, gratefully, returns those cows to safety.
1 p.m., Kihei
Shark sighting causes alarm. Family with small children playing in the near shore ocean is panicked when a 12-foot long tiger shark suddenly popped up in the sea nearby. Screaming to others, they help clear the area of possibly endangered swimmers. Maui lifeguards, one on jet ski, and the South Maui DLNR officer respond and keep watch.
5:30 p.m., Hali‘imaile
Caller moans to 911 that a very slow-moving tractor-like vehicle is on the highway downhill in front of him. “Blocking traffic” according to that caller, who asks for police to intervene.
5:35 p.m., Pukalani
Male and female in conflict. Police go.
5:40 p.m., Wailea and Makena
Water related injuries, two of them, in relatively close geographical areas. One male has a scraped and bloody face at Makena, reports 911, and another suffered unspecified injury next to a hotel swimming pool in Wailea. MFC Engine 14 and NFC Ladder 14 split those assignments.
7:42 p.m., Pukalani
Allegations to 911 say that half a dozen youths can be seen, right now, smoking meth. One of them on a motorbike is said to be revving up and down the street, making lots of noise. Squad car.
7:47 p.m., Hali‘imaile
Heated verbal hostility between two neighbors over one of their dogs. Squad car.
7:53 p.m., Kanaha Beach Parks
“Assault in progress. Four persons beating up another in the parking lot.” “Which parking lot?” demands one police officer. “There are about four parking lots there.” 911 is silent on that question. That officer then begins to search them all, one by one. No such event discovered.

8:55 a.m., Pukalani
“A tenant is charging harassment by the landlord,” says 911. Squad car dispatched.
11:05 a.m., Kahului
“Pit bull running wildly through heavy moving traffic. Almost caused an accident pileup at crossroads of Pu‘unene Avenue and Dairy Road,” says 911. Squad car dispatched.
Noon, Kanaha Beach Park
“Several pit bull dogs are reported to be running around loose in the public park,” broadcasts 911, “by the third entrance, near the sand. But the 911 caller reporting this, needs to remain anonymous.”
12:40 p.m., Ma‘alaea
“Child accidentally locked inside motor vehicle parked outside the Ocean Center.” MFC Engine 1 assigned.
1:33 p.m., ‘Iao Valley
“Heavyset Polynesian female allegedly seen trying to remove the safety approval sticker from a parked white Mercury.” No luck, say bystanders. “Drove off toward the upper parking lot the same callers reports.” Squad car.
3:33 p.m., Maliko
“Black Nissan pickup truck cruising toward Hana, four males in the bed chugging beers, then throwing empty containers over the side,” says 911. Squad car.
6:12 p.m., Wailuku
Male, strong language barrier, calling 911, says two other men assaulted him and stole his wallet. “They left in a red two door sedan headed for Happy Valley” he gets across. Police go.
Monday, August 18
9:20 a.m., Pukalani
“His dog was barking all night long,” a next door neighbor tells 911. “That guy lives alone. His door is slightly ajar, and he doesn’t answer our shouted calls.” Asking for police to check. 911 assigns a squad car.
10:50 a.m., Pukalani
Caller, alarmed,says that a couple he does not know is knocking insistently on his front door. “Another woman along with them” he says, “is a former tenant.” Wants police. Squad car will go.

3 p.m., Dairy Road Mall
A gagging, noxious smell is traced by responders to one parked car. It’s driver is checked out and reportedly cited for “spilling load.”
3:08 p.m., Kahana
“Possible drowning,” reports 911. “Female being pulled out of the water right now,” MFC Engine 11 soon reports “She’s OK. Breathing. Medic 5 is here. Cancel the other units.”
3:10 p.m., Kahului Post Office
911 tells squad car: “Lost property to be picked up. A wallet was found. See Chad.”

Trespasser at Akaku, says 911. “Male in his 40s, rubber slippers. Maybe pushing some kind of drug deal.” Squad car.
9:02 a.m., Pa‘ia
“Child left inside van alone while others go shopping inside Mana Foods,” says 911 caller. Squad car.
9:20 a.m., Lahainaluna
Perps, allegedly surprised while breaking into a car, seen “running away through nearby cane fields,” per caller. Only description is “one has light brown hair.” Squad car.
9:39 a.m., Kihei
Structure fire on Kaiwahine. Roof blazing,” says 911. Ladder 14, Engine 1, assigned.
9:49 a.m., Kahului
“Report that the traffic signal there is completely black” says 911 ops. Squad car asked to check scene, Dairy at Alamaha.
6:47 p.m., Makawao
“Going only by the crashing sounds,” neighbors say “there’s serious abuse between a male and a female going on.” Several police cars are dispatched by 911.
7:42 p.m., Pukalani
Female, 15 years old, said knocked out by impact from a flying soccer ball. “Breathing but unconscious,” says 911. MFC Engine 5 speeds through Pukalani on Old Haleakala Highway to nighttime Upcountry tennis courts area.
7:57 p.m., Kanaha Beach Park
Anonymous caller tells 911 that at least three often snarling dogs “known to be vicious” are let loose to roam through the darkened park at night. “Right now they’re lurking by the second entrance.” Police dispatched.
Wednesday, August 27
7:28 a.m., Launiupoko
“Lots of smoke seen on the hillside,” radios a fire official. “We’ll be investigating,” responds MFC Engine 3. Turns out to be the controlled blaze at a construction site. “I’ll talk to the guy,” says one on-scene fire leader, speaking from Kai Hele Ku.
8:51 a.m., Kula
“You’re responding to King K. Back gate, polo field side. 17 year old male, seizure,” says 911. Emergency responds.
10:13 a.m., Kahului
Local male, brown shirt, black shorts and slippers, said swearing loudly at a Western Union employee. Police go.
11:06 a.m., Wailuku
“General fire alarm, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Called in by Diebold,” says 911. MFC Engine 1, Rescue 10, roll out. False alarm, turns out. “Managers say they’ve been having trouble with their fire panel,” reports one fire leader over radio.

Heavy smoke from room at Grand Wailea, says fire department trainee. Cadets getting ready to take the MFC test practice over radio.
