Pumpers Fly Green Flags

Many Ma‘alaea tour boats are now hauling their toilet contents for treatment, rather than dumping the sewage into the Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary. Pump, Don’t Dump, a local grass roots group, has presented green flags to those boaters who maintain that they pump out their waste to trucks, not into the ocean.

The Pump, Don’t Dump group formed two years ago when all boats at Ma‘alaea Harbor dumped their toilet sewage into the ocean waters. Pump, Don’t Dump reports that now pumpers outnumber dumpers two to one.
