Parade, performances and benefit run for marine education programs.

At the Kihei Community Association meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Pacific Whale Foundation Community Advocate Kara Johanssen invited the public to “Run for the Whales,” in a Half Marathon, 5K plus 2K Walk and Fun Run for Kids on Saturday, Feb. 9, beginning and ending at Polo Beach Park in Wailea. The run is a benefit for marine education programs for Maui schoolchildren.

On Saturday, Feb. 16, the foundation will host Whale Day, with a parade on South Kihei Road beginning at 9 a.m., and a festival at Kalama Park from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Scheduled performances include John Cruz, Barefoot Natives, George Kahumoku Jr. and Marty Dread.
