At the next Kihei Community Association (KCA) meeting, on Tuesday, April 15, a representative of the Maui County Parks Department will present plans to control the size and location of commercial beach activities. The plan to regulate these operators, who provide lessons in various ocean activities, would limit the number and determine the type of operators and students allowed in parks, restrict parking and require emergency medical training for all instructors.
Some residents may think ocean activity businesses crowd out residents along the shoreline. Others may believe they serve a vital role in supplementing Maui’s short-handed and over-stressed first responders.
“KCA wants to speak for the community,” said KCA President Jon Miller, “ so we first need to hear what the community has to say on this issue. Come to our open mic so we know your opinion.”
Food donations for Maui Food Bank are welcomed, and free cloth grocery bags furnished by County Recycling Section will be distributed at the meeting. KCA is also offering new members a free cloth bag containing a KCA T-shirt and coupons from local merchants.
Hawaiian Moons and Safeway Kihei are donating food and cold drinks. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 879-5390, or visit www.gokihei.org.
