As we approach the midpoint of the International Year of the Reef, the Kihei Community Association (KCA) invites the public to attend a blessing by Kimokeo Kapahulehua “Respecting Coral Reefs” sign the association donated. The event will be held on Thursday, May 15, at 6 p.m. in front of the lifeguard tower at Kama‘ole III Beach Park.
According to KCA Public Relations Committee Member Mike Moran, “So much of the well-being of Maui and Hawai‘i depends on the health of our coral reefs that have been under attack by numerous sources for decades.”
Members of the KCA believe that using educational materials such as informative signage will alert both residents and visitors about proper care and treatment of this vital ocean life source.
Canned food donations will be accepted at a ceremony for the Maui Food Bank. Visit www.gokihei.org, or call 879-5390 for more information.
