Meeting aims to encourage participation in upcoming GPAC workshops.A community forum to discuss growth in South Maui will be held on Thursday, July 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lokelani Intermediate School, 1401 Liloa Drive in Kihei.
The forum is designed to create interest and encourage participation in the upcoming General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) meetings in South Maui on Thursday, July 17, and Saturday, July 19. South Maui residents are encouraged to share their ideas for the 2030 Maui Island Plan in a public workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the July 19 meeting.
Thursday’s forum will include an introduction to the Maui Island Plan process by Maui County Long Range Planner Dave Michaelson and a panel discussion moderated by former Planning Director Mike Foley. Panelists include Susan Moikeha of Na Hale o Maui, Lynn Britton of the Ma‘alaea Community Association, State Rep. Joe Bertram III and other community leaders.
Attendees are encouraged to share their views on South Maui’s infrastructure and traffic issues; preservation of cultural sites; water and land use issues, including urban land and agricultural land designations; South Maui’s parks, beaches and other recreational areas.
The event is sponsored by the Maui Tomorrow Foundation and the Ma‘alaea Community Association. Display maps will be provided and refreshments will be served.
