Kihei Community Association meeting to explore important environmental issues. In recognition of the International Year of the Reef, the Kîhei Community Association (KCA) welcomes Maui County Environmental Coordinator Kuhea Paracuelles, Liz Foote from the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) and Russell Sparks from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources to explain how we can help save our dying coral reefs. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 15, at the Kihei Community Center on Lipoa Street in Kihei.
“The coral reef system is vital to the overall well-being of our ocean,” said KCA Vice President Mike Moran. “If a reef goes beyond the tipping point, it can take several decades for recovery. Environmentally, this is the meeting of the year.”
South Maui residents are invited to attend KCA meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. A free T-shirt, a cloth grocery bag and discount coupons from local merchants are offered to new members. Non-perishable food donations for the Maui Food Bank are accepted at each meeting, and free cloth grocery bags from Maui County Recycling Section are available to attendees.
The talk story session begins 6 p.m., with pupu donated by Round Table Pizza. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
